BETONIT TILE ADHESIVE
1) Why is using Betonit Tile Adhesive more economical to use versus using cement?
With Betonit, you can save on labor because work is done faster. Even though the material is more expensive than cement, less material is needed because unlike cement, you only need a thin bed. Considering both labor and material cost, using Betonit Tile Adhesive is cheaper. More importantly, tile adhesives show greater adhesive strength and durability.
2) How is Betonit Tile Adhesive different from other tile adhesives?
Betonit Tile Adhesive has been formulated to conform to existing International Standards for Tile Adhesives. Its current formula has undergone testings under extreme conditions such as Water Immersion, and Heat testing (summer/rainy season). The development of Betonit Tile Adhesive, has been guided by American Standards for Tile Adhesives (ANSI 118).
3) What is the importance of these ANSI tests mentioned and is it relevant?
The Philippines does not have any Standards set for Tile Adhesives, Tile Grouts, etc. To be able to truthfully say that our product is of quality, we adopted the American Standards set by the American National Standard Institute. We acquired a copy of these standards, and partnered with the UP Diliman, Civil Engg Department, for testing.
4) Do we still need to pre soak or pre-wet either the tiles or the background prior to application?
No, under normal conditions there is no need to pre soak or pre-wet both the tiles or the background. However, during a hot or windy day, it is still recommended to pre-soak or pre-wet the background prior to application.
5) What is the bed thickness for tile adhesives?
Betonit can be applied with a minimum bed thickness of 3mm. Note that thickness of the adhesive layer is also dependent on the smoothness/roughness of the background (tiling surface) and its application. Depressions on the substrate will have to be filled by the tile adhesive. A smooth leveled surface will ensure lower consumption.
6) What is the difference between the different types of tile adhesive (Bison, Betonit Tile Adhesive, Betonit Premier and Betonit White)?
Betonit Tile Adhesive is the standard for quality. Betonit Premier is used for heavy duty tiling or stone installation, Betonit White is a non-staining white adhesive for pale or light-colored granite, marble tiles, and mosaic tiles. Bison is recommended for ceramic tiles for wall and floor.
